I am really upset.
I inherited my parents' house. It's not much of a house; we moved in about 6 months before Mother died and about a year before Dad died. I was sole heir and executrix, so I saw all the papers regarding the house.
I've been getting these bills from the Property Owners Association. At first I paid them, thinking, "Whatever!". Then I got a little stubborn. They don't plow the streets (the City does, and until recently it did a crappy job). They don't plow the sidewalks (each resident is required to keep his/her sidewalk clear). They don't even maintain the silly little asphalt walking paths; most of them are crumbling into the dirt. All we have is a Community Center -- basically the building the contractor used to sell the houses. I never use the Community Center. I'm never home during the day, and nothing happens at night. I've been there to vote, and one other time for the one and only Owners Association meeting I ever attended.
So I stopped paying. Now the Owners Association is suing. If it were just me, I'd fight it over sheer stubbornness, but I suppose my husband will want to pay it to keep peace in the world.
Whatever.
